Dr. Dunlap and staff all have advanced training in emergency field response, slack water rescue, technical large animal rescue and equine disaster response and continuously train and work on continuing education to keep skill sets sharp so that patients can quickly get the most advanced up to date care.

Dunlap Equine Services Clinic is set up as a complete complex with different barns for isolation, outpatients and inpatients and ICU patients to minimize disease transmission. Trying to see and house all patients in one common area is something to be avoided at all costs due to risk of disease. The clinic was designed to keep critical inpatients separated from routine outpatients and all are separated from our isolation area for diarrheal and respiratory diseases.

The clinic is conveniently located just off exit 35 on I-40 but is based on a quiet country road so horse trailers don’t have to buck traffic to get in and out. The clinic was constructed to allow for ease of entry and exit for all horse trailers including over the road 18 wheeler professional haulers. No one wants to worry about how to get into a clinic when a horse’s life is on the line.

ISOLATION WARD FOR CONTAGIOUS DISEASES-RESPIRATORY AND DIARRHEAL

  • With our isolation stall wing we can safely provide care for critically ill patients who may have contagious diarrhea or respiratory disease and keep them safe as well as protecting the other horses in the clinic.

  • Outbreaks can be devastating so it is very important to isolate and quarantine a horse suspected of having a respiratory or diarrheal infection immediately.

  • Our isolation area is set up with IV fluid pumps for specialty fluid administration and soft footing to help prevent laminitis in critically ill patients.

HIGH RISK PREGNANCY AND NICU

  • We have dedicated one section of our critical care barn to NICU and high risk pregnancy mares.

  • Foal out broodmares

  • We use Nursemares of KY to provide nursemares for orphan and rejected foals.
